VRFocus - If youve had so much as a passing interest in virtual reality (VR) technology over the past few years, then its likely crossed your mind that head-mounted displays (HMD) are a perfect companion to the horror genre. The isolation and immersion provided by the likes of the Oculus Rift can create an atmosphere unlike anything achievable with a standard screen. As those more deeply invested in VR will no doubt know, many developers have already tried to capitalise on this. The Oculus VR Share platform, a portal for free VR software, is littered with scary experiences while some high-profile studios such as The Creative Assembly have been using the Oculus Rift with their projects such as Alien: Isolation.

Added: 21.11.2014 2:11 | 3 views | 0 comments

With the consumer release of Oculus Rift expected to arrive "pretty soon", you'd be forgiven for thinking major publishers are starting to ramp up (albeit quietly) virtual reality development. While that may be true, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has told Bloomberg TV (via IGN) that he doesn't think the industry is ready for the shift. Take-Two is parent company to both 2K Games and Rockstar, and with Grand Theft Auto 5 releasing for PC in January many have salivated at the prospect of tweaking GTA to run with Oculus Rift.

Smash Hit Plunder Dev Reveals Innovative 'Shared Screen' System for Gear VR

Added: 17.11.2014 17:11 | 5 views | 0 comments

VRFocus - When using either the Oculus Rift or Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD) a mirror image of what the user is seeing is displayed on a connected monitor or TV display. It's a handy feature that helps others get a sense of what the player is experiencing and, in the case of Project Morpheus, opens up some new multiplayer opportunities. But when it comes to Samsung's Gear VR smartphone-based HMD, there isn't any secondary screen to connect to show these images. Smash Hit Plunder developer Triangular Pixels has its own solution to this issue.
